#FACYL2020 comes to an end after five days and over 40 activities committed to the most current contemporary creation
This unique #FACYL2020 has offered an innovative programme, capable of showing the commitment to the most current creation, offering a plural and more open culture. For 5 days, we have organised an intense LIVE and ONLINE cultural programme, offering innovative and avant-garde proposals as well as building an international community around the festival in favour of culture, thus positioning Salamanca as a point of reference on the international map.
International community
This sixteenth edition, which has been marked by change, has seen the incorporation of three women in its artistic direction, experts of recognised prestige in their professional fields: music, artistic and cultural creation and the performing arts: Cristina Sitz-Gento, Juana Escudero and María Caudevilla have made it possible to incorporate an enriching perspective into the festival’s programme.
In this way, a commitment has been made to build an international community in favour of culture, with the participation of highly prestigious personalities on the national and international cultural scene, such as multimedia creators Laurie Anderson, Concha Jerez and Meredith Monk; musicians Steve Reich, Raül Refree, Reinhold Friedl, Oscar Escudero and Belenish Moreno-Gil, Diego Tosi and Alberto Bernal; playwrights and creators such as Katie Mitchell, Pablo Fidalgo, Siobhan Davies, Lola Arias and Milo Rau; and also artists and performers such as Regina José Galindo, Gonzalo Borondo and Klaus Obermaier.
In addition, at #FACYL2020 we have shared conversations with personalities and heads of cultural institutions around the world, such as Chus Martínez from Basel, Anthony Marx from New York, Thomas Ostermeier from Berlin, Ernesto Ottone from UNESCO in Paris, Luca Bergamo from Rome, Jeannette Snowball from Cape Town, Germán Rey from Bogotá, Duncan Macmillan from Bristol, Kathrin Deventer from Brussels, Arjo Klamer from Amsterdam, Luz Estela Peña from Medellín and Gemma Carbó, Alfons Martinell, Alicia Sellés, Lluís Bonet, Maria Lladó and many other collaborators from different parts of Spain.
Within FACYL EN VIVO, the programme included theatre, music, performance and installations in eight venues representative of Salamanca’s cultural life and heritage (Casa Lis, Juan del Enzina Theatre, Liceo Theatre, Patio Escuelas Mayores square, Patio Chico square, Calixto y Melibea gardens, La Salina Palace and the Centre for Scenic Arts and Music). The festival has staged 11 live shows, with spectacular and eye-catching installations such as Non Plus Ultra by artist Gonzalo Borondo in the La Salina palace, or the interactive mapping Dancing House by artist Klaus Obermaier in Patio de Escuelas Mayores square, which has been enjoyed by thousands of people.
In addition, we discovered the sounds hidden inside a piano, through the genius of composer and Zeitkratzer’s founder Reinhold Friedl, with his proposal Inside Piano, and enjoyed the concert ‘Mobile’ in the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea, by the artist Alberto Bernal. The contemporary music scene was represented with the performances of Lina_Raül Refree, ONoff Ensemble, Neopercusión and Ensemble Flashback, among other activities.
The FACYL ONLINE programme has allowed us to enjoy 19 talks, three plays and five films that are difficult to find in the usual commercial circuits. It has also enabled us to attend two masterclasses that have allowed us to learn and share how much culture can bring us in difficult times: emotion, reflection,common enjoyment and looks to the future. #FACYL2020 has been intensely experienced online. FACYL’s website, www.facyl-festival.com, has been a place from which the festival’s extensive online programme could be followed. It has had a notable impact throughout the festival’s different profiles on social networks: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The festival ends today but it will continue to be active through the website and the festival’s YouTube channel, offering you the chance to enjoy conversations that have taken place throughout our 5-day festival. For those of you who have not been able to enjoy the ‘Conversations on Culture’ live, you will have the opportunity to watch them in the coming weeks.
FACYL has wanted to offer a culture more open to participation from a pluralistic point of view by incorporating concerns such as the role of culture in our development and in our coexistence, to be able to reach as many people as possible, both in its live programming and through its extensive online programme.
